SUN 19 FEB 06
ST ALDHELMS 1
FRY CLUB COLTS 0
Our
most important league game of the season took us to the league leaders who had
previously won every game they had played this season.
Unfortunately
the pitch and weather conditions were collectively dreadful which didn’t help
either team. However, an even start to the game saw some good football with few
chances being created. Both Oli Randall and Craig
Andrews in midfield were playing as well as ever and their strength helped to
dominate large parts of the half. Mo Bouaziz and Brad
Monelle both had half chances which they were unlucky
with. By now though we were playing well and St Aldhelms
response was to kick out at one of our players which only got a ticking off
from the referee. Certainly the player was very lucky to be on the pitch and
ironically from a subsequent corner they opened the scoring with the same
player heading a good goal past Craig Francis. Our response was immediate with
a great move down the right and from a great cross Craig Andrews was very
unlucky to slice the ball over the bar from just 2 yards.
As
always when you go 1-0 down time seems to tick faster and the second half went
that way with few chances created, although we still continued to play great football
on an awful pitch. In defence both James Boulton and
James Hurrell Smith were absolutely brilliant with
their defending. In fact as a team in general we defended so well that St Aldhelms also had few chances throughout the whole game. In
the end though we just couldn’t find the opening we so desperately wanted and
so suffered only our second but vital loss of the season.
The boys really couldn’t have done any more but we still have work ahead in defending corners and continuing to play as well as we did today.
There
were so many good performances today but Man of the Match was awarded to captain Oli Randall who really did
lead the team with a great performance.
